Six Days Cycling Rotterdam

Thursday from 5 to Tuesday 10 January, 2012 in Ahoy is the 30th edition of the six days of Rotterdam.

History

The six days of Rotterdam was organized first in 1936. The site of this first edition was Nenyto building. John Cor Pijnenburg and Waltz were the winners of the first six days of Rotterdam. In 1937, the Second Edition. Then won the Belgians Albert Buysse and Albert Billiet. The third edition of the six days of Rotterdam was organized only in 1968. In the seventies and early eighties witnessed this event a heyday. In the mid-1980s, the popularity of this six days, declined. At the time, the race was held on a permanent velodrome in Ahoy. Sports Palace was used increasingly during this period as a concert hall for the world famous pop artists. Such concerts as much more money than the cycling competitions. Concert organizers began to suggest that the velodrome was actually in the way. If the bicycle track, after all, would no longer be in Ahoy, it would be much more space for spectators, and therefore one can sell a lot more tickets. At the end of the 1980s seemed to defnitief an end to Ahoy cycling Temple: the permanent Velodrome was demolished, and then there were none six days a year more in Rotterdam.

Comeback

In 2005 experienced six days of Rotterdam still his comeback. The contest has since been held at a course, only a limited time each year is in the Ahoy. These 2005 six day was partly devoted to the big farewell Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel and was therefore also a great success. In the following years, the six days of Rotterdam remained very popular. The event is now once again one of the most beautiful and attractive six-day world.

Pain

The most successful driver in the history of this competition is René Pains. He won this race eight times. The Australian Danny Clark won the six days of Rotterdam seven times.

In 2007 Peter Ouwerkerk is published by the publishing house Buitenspelers book at Rotterdam rail “, in honor of the 25th edition of the six days of Rotterdam. This beautiful book is an absolute must for any fan of track cycling.

Sprinters 2012

During the six days of Rotterdam is also another sprint on the program. This tournament will be very strong fields. On the start list is the champion French world, Grégory Baugé, Kévin sireau his talented fellow countryman, Holland’s best sprinter Teun Mulder and several American Champion Giddeon Massie.
