How Are You Packing Your Bike For The Trip

Gadgets: Before the snow had time to digest here in Sweden pulls the big bike travel season started. Our meck expert Henry van Ingelandt share their best packing list.

Travelling by bicycle requires preparation and planning. Both for it to go fast and painless to get down cycle in the carrying case, and that the bike will arrive unharmed.

One way to take your bike on the flight is actually simply take your bike exactly as it is.The airlines usually think that it is okay as long as you remove the pedals, turn the handlebars and let the air out of the tires. Some travel with their standard bikes in this way, but it’s not something we would recommend for your finest jewels, as you risk everything from cosmetic scratches to the frame breakage.

Bicycle Carton
The cheapest option is a regular bike cardboard bike shops often give away to those who ask nicely. It is spacious, and you can easily fit more than just packing the bike, such as helmet, shoes and clothing in bags. Unpack the bike in a box, you do not dismount the rear derailleur, because the bike is in the box with the rear wheel and rear derailleur in place. It is not, however, for as many trips, and is large and unwieldy if you’re further from the airport by taxi or private car.

Soft Cover Case
Soft Cover Case is both cheaper and more lavish variants. A simple unpadded bag you can easily enhance the inside with large pieces of cardboard, seat cushions from the outdoor furniture and the like padding. Pipe insulation from the plumbing store and bubble wrap also protects the good. Add your bicycle clothes in bags and shove, so you also get extra protection while pulling down on luggage weight on your regular suitcase.

Soft Cover bag is usually smaller than both the bike box and hard shell case, and it is also ductile, which is an advantage if the bag has to be booked it in that little taxi at the airport. This is also why soft shell bag is the most durable option, because it shapes itself and give in a little. There are also semi-soft varieties with wheels on – a little more expensive, but you do not have to lug the bag.
